Listed & Conservation

Headley Court
The rehabilitation centre incorporating a gym, medical treatment rooms, administration spaces and a centre piece swimming pool was developed for Help for Heroes and was one of the first projects funded by the charity. The building is set within the grounds of the grade II listed manor house and sits on a constrained site behind a substantial garden wall which is part of the listing.  Changes in level and restricted access added to the challenges but an exciting scheme emerged which has been described as a world class facility proving support to wounded military personnel.

Marlborough

A fire destroyed two-thirds of this grade II listed building which serves as one of eight identical boarding houses at a school for the children of military personnel. After discussions with the local authority conservation officer it was agreed that the building should be reinstated to appear as original. Much work was required to develop the details to replicate the original appearance whilst adhering to modern standards of construction and thermal performance.

The opportunity was taken to upgrade the dormitory and communal areas which created a template for the subsequent refurbishment of the other buildings.

The contemporary intervention takes references from the historic context and adds to the narrative of the street. Large windows ensure natural light is brought deep into the plan.
